Roberta Sommerfeld is the pen name for a writer who has lived her entire life on the Canadian prairies. She was born and raised in Saskatoon, but her first teaching job took her out of the city and into rural Saskatchewan. Roberta married a farmer and together they raised four children.
Roberta has two university degrees from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as a Writers Diploma from St Peter’s College. Now retired from teaching, she devotes much of her creative energy into writing. She has written two novels, poems, essays, and a collection of short stories. She writes mostly, but not exclusively, about women and the domestic life around her.
Roberta lives on the farm with her husband and dog. Besides writing, she keeps busy with her yard and garden, spending time with her family, and traveling with her husband. Some of her other hobbies include playing tennis, stamp collecting, playing the piano, quilting, and swimming.
Travel has become a passion. Roberta and her husband have explored such cities as New Orleans, Salzburg, Zagreb, NYC and Dublin. They like bus trips, road trips, cruises, and all-inclusive resorts. She has travelled to New Zealand, Jamaica, Mexico, Poland, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Iceland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Panama. In the future she plans to write a humorous account about her road trips with her husband to the United States.
